# 25 Years of Bizcommunity: A Giant of African Business Media
**For a quarter of a century, Bizcommunity has done more than report on business. It has helped shape the way African business talks about itself. As the publication celebrates 25 years, Battora salutes one of the continent's most important business media institutions.**
Twenty-five years is a long time on the internet.
Publications have launched, disappeared, rebranded, pivoted, and been swallowed by changing algorithms. Platforms that once seemed indispensable have come and gone.
Bizcommunity is still here.
On 20 August 2001, the first Bizcommunity newsletter was sent. What began with an ambitious idea to connect companies, professionals, and organisations by industry has grown into one of Africa's defining business media platforms.
Today, when it comes to business news, industry conversations, and corporate communications in Southern Africa, few publications have a stronger claim to being the gold standard.
## More Than Business News
The strength of Bizcommunity has never simply been the volume of stories it publishes.
It built something bigger: a place where industries could speak.
Marketing, media, finance, technology, retail, agriculture, tourism, logistics, property, healthcare, construction, and entrepreneurship are among the many sectors that now live within the Bizcommunity ecosystem.
That breadth matters.
It means an advertising executive can start the morning understanding what is happening in marketing, a founder can follow developments affecting entrepreneurship and technology, and an industry leader can communicate directly with the community that matters to their business.
For many professionals, Bizcommunity has become part publication, part industry noticeboard, and part historical record of African business.
## Building a Platform Before Platforms Became the Buzzword
Bizcommunity's original vision feels remarkably modern 25 years later.
CEO and co-founder Andre Rademan describes the idea behind the company as creating connected online business communities across industries under one trusted brand.
That word — **community** — may be the most important part of the Bizcommunity story.
Long before every technology company started calling itself a platform, Bizcommunity was creating the infrastructure for businesses, professionals, entrepreneurs, employers, agencies, and industry organisations to find each other and communicate.
Its role has expanded beyond journalism into jobs, events, industry opinion, company announcements, professional profiles, and corporate publishing.
Its Biz Press Office model is perhaps one of the clearest examples of that evolution. Hundreds of companies now use dedicated Bizcommunity newsrooms to publish their corporate stories.
The publication did not simply build an audience.
It built an ecosystem around that audience.
## A Trusted Home for African Business
Trust is difficult to manufacture in media.
It is accumulated one story, one reader, and one year at a time.
Twenty-five years creates something that cannot easily be replicated by a new website with a large marketing budget.
Institutional memory.
Bizcommunity has documented businesses being born, industries changing, executives moving, technologies emerging, campaigns launching, companies expanding, and economic cycles turning.
Through that process, it has become part of the story it reports on.
Its significance is particularly important in an African media environment where business stories can easily be overshadowed by political headlines or international narratives about the continent.
Bizcommunity has consistently given African companies, professionals, and industries somewhere to tell their own stories.
Not as an occasional Africa supplement.
As the main event.
## The Gold Standard Is Built Through Consistency
Being the biggest or the best publication cannot simply be declared.
It has to be demonstrated through relevance.
And relevance is where Bizcommunity has excelled.
Twenty-five years later, companies still want to publish there. Professionals still want to contribute there. Employers still advertise opportunities there. Industry leaders still appear there. Readers still open its newsletters to understand what is happening across business.
That staying power is perhaps the strongest endorsement a media brand can receive.
The internet has radically changed since 2001.
Bizcommunity changed with it without abandoning the central idea behind its name: **business and community belong together.**
## The Next 25
Media is entering another transformation.
Artificial intelligence is changing how information is created and discovered. Search is changing. Social media distribution is changing. Audiences are becoming more fragmented, while businesses increasingly want direct relationships with the communities they serve.
That makes trusted publishing brands more important, not less.
There will be new technologies, formats, and competitors over the next quarter-century. But the fundamental need Bizcommunity identified in 2001 remains remarkably intact:
Businesses need somewhere credible to be seen, heard, and understood.
For 25 years, Bizcommunity has provided that place.
From all of us at Battora, congratulations to the founders, journalists, editors, contributors, commercial teams, and wider Bizcommunity community who have built and sustained one of Africa's great publishing platforms.
**Twenty-five years of informing business. Twenty-five years of connecting industries. Twenty-five years of documenting African enterprise.**
Here's to the next 25.
